pair of oak and yew cabinets

I had a beautiful board of highly figured pippy yew in my workshop for a number of years. Every time an opportunity came to use it I shied away from cutting into it. It seemed such a shame, as it was so perfect just as it was. Yew has a very distinctive white sap wood and the wood under the bark is also quite special. Eventually, inspired partially by the screens of Japanese 'shoji' maker Toshio Odate, I opted to do no more than cut the board in two, plane it smooth and allow it to speak for itself. The shadow of the interior of the cabinet provides a striking contrast for the door panel, particularly against the creamy sap wood.
